Introduction
Experience built project by project.
Throughout his professional career, Alex Hasbun has participated in and led projects requiring field expertise, technical judgment, specialized teams and coordination across multiple disciplines and institutions.
The following projects offer a representative view of that experience — from marine and environmental investigation to hydroelectric infrastructure and multidisciplinary project direction.
Industrial Services

Marine Environmental Assessment
Port of La Unión, El Salvador
ClientComisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA)
Marine environmental work at the Port of La Unión included the identification and inventory of benthic and pelagic fauna as part of the assessment of existing environmental conditions.
Underwater fieldwork and biological characterization provided technical environmental information supporting the project assessment.
Scope

Bathymetry & Seabed Sampling
Gulf of FonsecaLa Unión, El Salvador
The project involved specialized equipment and field operations for submarine bathymetry and seabed sampling in the Gulf of Fonseca.
The work supported the collection of physical information from the marine environment through seabed investigation, sampling and underwater field operations.
Scope

Submarine Characterization
Port of AcajutlaEl Salvador
Underwater characterization and biological field investigation at the Port of Acajutla included the inventory and identification of marine fauna within the project area.
The work provided technical information about existing submarine and biological conditions through direct field investigation.
Scope
Hydroelectric Infrastructure Operations
El Salvador
Alex Hasbun's field experience includes specialized underwater operations supporting the inspection, maintenance and resolution of technical problems within hydroelectric infrastructure.
These assignments required commercial diving capability, practical technical judgment and work in submerged environments where conventional access was limited.

A broader body of work.
Beyond the projects highlighted above, Alex Hasbun's professional experience extends across a wide range of technical assignments and operating environments.

Year2024
In 2024, Alex Hasbun served as Project Director for OIRSA for the implementation of the Airport Biosafety Logistics Center, a MAG–OIRSA initiative at El Salvador International Airport San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez.
His role involved overall project direction and coordination, bringing together the participants, technical requirements and institutional components necessary for implementation.
The project reflects the breadth of his experience, extending from specialized technical and field work to the direction and coordination of complex multidisciplinary initiatives.
Role
Agricultural & Livestock Project Direction and Integrated Services
Alex Hasbun’s experience in the agricultural sector encompasses agricultural health, project direction and supervision, and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.
His background combines institutional experience, technical knowledge and direct exposure to the challenges faced by agricultural and livestock operations, allowing each project to be approached from an integrated perspective.

OIRSA Representative — El Salvador
One of Alex Hasbun’s most significant roles has been serving as the representative in El Salvador of the Organismo Internacional Regional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (OIRSA), leading and supervising initiatives aimed at protecting the country’s agricultural production from pests, diseases and other sanitary threats.
Canine Inspection Units
His experience includes the supervision of canine inspection units at El Salvador International Airport, used to detect animal- and plant-origin products that may pose a sanitary risk to the country. These units have successfully seized more than 2,000 high-risk products, helping prevent threats from entering El Salvador’s agricultural production system.
He has also participated in animal and plant health surveillance, focused on monitoring and protecting the sanitary status of the country’s agricultural production.

Agricultural Health
Sustainable Agriculture & Agro-Environmental Education
AgreenCultura
Alex Hasbun has also participated in initiatives focused on promoting more sustainable and resilient agricultural practices.
As a strategic technical and environmental advisor to El Salvador’s Secretaría de Estado de Agricultura y Ganadería, he participated in the creation of the AgreenCultura educational program, designed to promote sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices among producers and the general public.
Marine Conservation & Coastal Development
Alex Hasbun’s career includes directing marine conservation and coastal community development programs, as well as participating through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in national biodiversity conservation, research, environmental education and sustainable development initiatives.
Later, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, he participated in implementing the Sea Turtle Route and advancing Viva Ballena, initiatives aimed at marine biodiversity conservation and generating sustainable opportunities for coastal communities.
Sea Turtle Conservation
As President and Executive Director of FUNZEL, Alex Hasbun directed the USAID–FUNZEL Sea Turtle Conservation and Quality of Life Improvement Program for the Coastal Communities of El Salvador, supported by USAID and focused on sea turtle conservation and improving the quality of life of coastal communities. The program became the largest sea turtle conservation program in Latin America, releasing more than one million turtles into the ocean per season.

Viva Ballena
Through El Salvador’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Alex Hasbun participated in advancing Viva Ballena, an initiative designed to integrate marine conservation, research, environmental education and sustainable opportunities connected to coastal communities.
